Well, I’ve just had an interesting conversation with Jay about the superior heat output of a fully-loaded IBM z990 mainframe. After examining the T-Rex specifications I learned that the maximum heat output is 53.73 KWTU/hr (kilowatt thermal units per hour?). After doing some googling and a simple conversion from BTUs to kilowatt-hours, I found that a 990 is two to three times as effective as your typical woodstove. Not having seen the figures for a z800, I’m willing to hazard a guess that my designation of the COSI zServer as Osh* is more than appropriate.
My goal now is to produce a convincing study that demonstrates that it is cheaper to buy IBM mainframes than build well-heated homeless shelters. Jay’s suggestion was that I examine whether or not all of the mainframes in existence generate more heat than an atom bomb.
An interesting proposal. Now I just need to find some lackeys to perform the research and number-crunching.
In other news, it’s almost time to go pick up my new car. Woohoo!

I broke my new headphones today. Or rather, they broke themselves. I think it’s a sign that perhaps I should stop doing IBM work for the week. The guy at RadioShack said they didn’t have any more of that model in stock, so I’ve got to wait 3 days until a replacement arrives.

I hope the fucktard that did this gets some serious jail time. That is so friggin’ stupid: shooting someone because they questioned you about some missing shot glasses?!

Looks like I got some of my own medicine.
Brendan, if you’re going to Gimp up shots of me (as mentioned in clarkbw’s post), at least do it right.
Up next: Mike McCabe.
Update: version 2 isn’t as good.

I was taking a break from doing the homework for Linear Algebra and saw RML mention on Planet Gnome that he would be on Ottawa next week for a talk at an OCLUG meeting.
Although I have 3 exams the next day, I think a break might be in order. Anyone else interested in postponing the COSI administration meeting and instead taking a drive to Canada? The talk is at 7 PM.
Followup: According to OCLUG’s newcomer info page, there’s an unofficial Beer SIG meeting afterwards. Anyone interested now?

Didn’t get a whole lot done today. I got up a little before 10, went to the gym, got some breakfast & picked up a package, and then proceeded to spend the rest of the day doing laundry and meeting with Mike to plan COSI things for the next month or so.
I suppose I’ll spend tomorrow reading & preparing for classes…

An interesting (yet wholly disturbing) IM from Eli in response to the Aristotle quotation about excellence on the front page of my site:
“We are what we repeatedly pig fuck. Seducing pork, then, is not an act, but a habit.” — Aristotel (Aristotle’s cousin with a bestiality problem)
…And people say I’m the sick one!
